Ducks Fire CharronArchived from 2000-01 season. | |
Guy Charron was fired as the coach of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim on Monday. Charron had replaced Craig Hartsburg in December, but couldn't prevent the team form missing the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
The Ducks went 20-34-8 under Charron and finished last in the NHL's Western Conference at 25-46-11, including a club-record eight shutout losses. The Ducks will now begin the search for a new coach for the fourth time in five seasons. "It's best for us to get a fresh start," Ducks general manager Pierre Gauthier said. "We are continuing with our major changes." Charron joins Hartsburg (1998-99 to Dec. 14, 2000), Pierre Page (1997-98) and Ron Wilson (1993-94 to 1996-97) on the list of fired Duck coaches. "Ron had a pretty long tenure here," said Paul Kariya, the team's captain since 1996-97. "Since him, it's gone pretty quick. It's difficult because you don't get used to one system, one style of coaching, one style of play. Every coach has his own individual style, his own take on how the game should be played. As a player, you have to adjust to that. It would be terrific if we got some stability." |
