Caps Shut Out PenguinsArchived from 2000-01 season. | |
Olaf Kolzig stopped all 16 shots for his fifth career playoff shutout as the Washington Capitals beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 1-0 in the series opener.
"Considering the talent level of their forwards, it's as close to perfect as we're going to play against Pittsburgh," said Kolzig. The Capitals held Mario Lemieux without a shot in his first playoff game since unretiring. "They play a tight-checking game," said Lemieux. "What are you going to do? That's the way the game goes in the playoffs. It's not going to be freewheeling like the All-Star game. If you expect that, you're at the wrong place." Peter Bondra scored the only goal in game on power-play 35 seconds in to the second period. |
