Rookie Bryce Salvador scored at 9:54 of overtime as the St. Louis Blues beat the San Jose Sharks 3-2 to take a 3-2 lead in the first round series.
"I looked up and saw an open lane," Salvador said. "I'm like 'Holy Cow, get this thing on the net!' I won't forget about this one, ever." Dallas Drake tied the game with 2:48 left in regulation after great individual play by Pierre Turgeon, who also assisted on the game-winner. "I give him full marks," Sharks coach Darryl Sutter said. "Really, Turgeon was the difference in the game. He made a great play on the tying goal, and wins the faceoff on the winner." St. Louis outshot San Jose 38-26 as the Sharks received another brilliant effort by rookie goalie Miikka Kiprusoff, who made only his second career playoff start. "It was an imperative game for us," Blues forward Keith Tkachuk said. "Game 6 is going to be unbelievable and we're going to have to play our best." Stephane Matteau and Patrick Marleau scored for San Jose and Teemu Selanne had two assists. |
