Roman Turek made 30 saves as the St. Louis Blues beat the San Jose Sharks 2-1 and advanced to the Western Conference semifinals with a 4-2 series win.
"Anything can happen in Game Seven," Blues left wing Keith Tkachuk said. "We didn't want to take that chance. We had them down. We wanted to stick the fork in them and we finally did it today. But I'll tell you, it was an unbelievable series that could have gone either way." Cory Stillman and Pavol Demitra each scored in 52 seconds in the second period before Brad Stuart pulled the Sharks to 2-1 with 7:29 left in regulation. "It was intense," St. Louis coach Joel Quenneville said. "Every game was extremely competitive. The Sharks play hard and they play mean. I thought we responded well to that physical challenge." The Blues victory goes a long way to erase memories of last year's stinging first round loss to the Sharks in seven games. "Whatever happened last year, it's over," Turek said. "It doesn't matter what happened back then. We're here now, and we're going to the second round." |
