Penguins Win Without JagrArchived from 2000-01 season. | |
Andrew Ference scored the go-ahead goal in the third period as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 to take a 2-0 lead in the second round series.
"That was a horrible shot," Ference said, laughing. "I couldn't really shoot it directly at the goalie because the guy was going to block it. So I just tried to put it off, but not like that. It just kind of flubbed off my stick." The Penguins, who were without injured Jaromir Jagr, also received goals from Robert Lang and Alexei Kovalev. "We've talked about it already. The general feeling is nothing is over," said Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux. "It happened last year. We were up 2-0 against Philly and they came back and beat us in the series. In the playoffs, you are going to face some teams who are very desperate, like the Sabres on Monday." "We played a solid game tonight. We have to take that game on the road," said Buffalo left wing Dave Andreychuk. "The pressure is on them, they want to win in their building. They're up 2-0. We've got nothing to lose, we're still in the series." |
