Sabres Pull EvenArchived from 2000-01 season. | |
Stu Barnes had two goals as the Buffalo Sabres beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 to even the Eastern Conference semifinal series two games apiece.
Buffalo is trying to rally from a 2-0 playoff deficit for the first time in their history after dropping the first two games at home. "We were trying to force things at home, and you can't be playing run and gun with these guys," Buffalo's Jason Woolley said. "We were much more patient here and relied on our defense. At home, you're always trying to put a show on for the fans." The Penguins must be feeling a little deja vu as the series is starting to look like Conference semifinals last year, when Pittsburgh opened the series with a pair of road wins before losing four straight to the Philadelphia Flyers. "Of course, we can get it back. This is a new game, new year, a different team," Penguins defenseman Darius Kasparaitis said. "We have to figure out what they did. We don't want to repeat the Philly series." Martin Straka was stopped by Dominik Hasek on a penalty shot with 11:53 remaining of the third that would have tied it at 3. "He didn't leave much," Straka said. "I tried to deke him, couldn't get it up, couldn't finish it off. ... Hasek came pretty far out. There was nothing low, I tried to get it over him." |
