Caps Give Kolzig ExtensionArchived from 2001-02 season. | |
The Washington Capitals signed goalie Olaf Kolzig to a five-year, $31-million contract extension, that will probably keep Olie the Goalie with the team for the rest of his career.
"I've never hidden the fact that I wanted to remain in Washington," Kolzig said. "This organization gave me an opportunity to play in this league and they were real patient with me when I was developing as a goalie." Kolzig won the 1999-00 Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender, has led Washington to consecutive Southeast Division titles and was the catalyst in the Capitals' run to the 1998 Stanley Cup Finals. "We are pleased to have Olie as a member of the Capitals for the next five seasons," Capitals general manager George McPhee said. "Olie was drafted a Capital and has committed to remain a Capital for his career. I'm really surprised how quickly and easily we got this done." |
