Henrik Sedin scored at 13:59 of overtime to give the Vancouver Canucks a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in the series opener.
"I just tried to get it on net," Sedin said. "I saw it on TV, it hit (Larionov) on his shoulder." "We're not going to panic, everybody else can panic," Detroit's Darren McCarty said. "It's what we expect with the team we have, with what we expect of ourselves and what people expect from us. We know what it is." Flyers In OT "It was an important game for Roman," forward Mark Recchi said. "There's been lots of questions, but we believe in him and know he's a big-time goalie." Hurricanes Draw First Blood "I don't think it's a hole," Devils' Bobby Holik said. "It's just one game. The big thing is who wins the next game. Let's not jump the gun. The Hurricanes played a decent game, but there was one ingredient missing and that was creating traffic in front of Irbe." The Devils were playing without Joe Nieuwendyk, Petr Sykora , Scott Gomez and Stephane Richer, who were out due injuries or illness. Sharks Win On Burke's Blunder Phoenix goalie Sean Burke mishandled the puck behind the net and Teemu Selanne passed it to Marleau, who put it in the empty net for the winning goal. |
