Saku Koivu had a goal and an assist and Jose Theodore stopped 45 shots as the Montreal Canadiens held off the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 Sunday night to even the best-of-seven, second-round series 1-1.
"We knew that we had to come out stronger than we did in the first game," Koivu said. "For some reason, we were waiting for something to happen in that game. In the first period, we were able to get the forecheck going and get the first goal." Andrei Markov, Doug Gilmour and Bill Lindsay also scored for the Canadiens, who were outshot 46-16. "If we get 46 shots every night, sooner or later we're going to get some of them to go in," Carolina captain Ron Francis said. "We had some opportunities tonight, especially early, that we didn't capitalize on. They scored a couple early and it was all uphill from there." Game 3 will be played at the Molson Centre in Montreal on Tuesday night. "It'll be a good day (Monday) to relax and rest up," said Theodore. |
