2002 Playoffs

Patrick Marleau scored the game-winner in the third period as the San Jose Sharks beat the Colorado Avalanche 6-4.

Evgeni Nabokov, who was pulled Saturday in San Jose's 8-2 Game 2 loss, stopped 29 shots. The Sharks lead the best-of seven series 2-1.

Owen Nolan scored two goals, including an empty-netter, and Scott Thornton, Teemu Selanne and Adam Graves also scored for the Sharks.

Senators Almost Blow It
Magnus Arvedson scored twice and Daniel Alfredsson netted the game-winner as the Ottawa Senators held off a late rally to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 3-2, and take a two games to one lead in their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

"It's so tough to score in the playoffs and it's very important to score first and then play our game," Arvedson said. "We feel pretty good now. (Being up) 2-1 (in the series) is really important and it's good to get the win here in our building. It puts some pressure on them now."

Senators took a 3-0 lead half way through the third period, but the Maple Leafs made it close by scoring twice in the last three minutes.

"I wasn't thinking about the shutout at all," Ottawa goalie Patrick Lalime said. "I was only thinking about winning this game and about what we have to do to win this series."
