Darcy Tucker scored in the first period and Curtis Joseph stopped all 27 shots as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Carolina Hurricanes 1-0 on Saturday night to stay alive in the Eastern Conference finals.
"We've been through a lot as a group in these playoffs and it has made us a lot stronger and a lot harder egg to crack," Tucker said. "I'm very proud to play on a team like this. We have a long road ahead, but we got one. Now we've got to get the next one." Toronto's ailing coach Pat Quinn missed the game and assistant Rick Ley was in charge behind the bench as the Maple Leafs won their fourth elimination game this postseason. Leafs beat the New York Islanders in Game 7 in the first round and did the same to Ottawa in Games 6 and 7 in the second round. "We've been there before so I think this is the third, fourth time our lives have been on the line," defenseman Bryan McCabe said. "We fought through it, so hopefully we can keep on going. We'd love to have another game back here." Colorado Ties Series "We have given up so many leads, but today we did a better job," said Peter Forsberg. "Maybe we're learning, hopefully we're learning. It's going to be a long series and if we're going to win, we have to be able to keep the lead." Game 5 is Monday night in Detroit. |
