Modano Earns 1,000th Career PointArchived from 2002-03 season. | |
Mike Modano notched the 1,000th point of his career on an assist in the first period as the Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-2.
"It really hit home," Modano said. "It was very emotional. You think about all the players that I have played with and the players that have made an impact. When I went to the bench, those guys were on my mind." Modano is the fifth U.S.-born player to reach the milestone, the 26th to do so with the same team he began his career with and the 64th overall. Bill Guerin, Pierre Turgeon and Niko Kapanen also scored to keep Dallas unbeaten at home while giving Colorado its first road loss in regulation. "We wanted this to be a statement game," said Dallas goaltender Marty Turco. "There were things we wanted to accomplish. We certainly like what we're doing as a whole." The game featured another milestone as Colorado goalie Patrick Roy became the NHL career leader in minutes played midway through the third period, breaking the mark held by Terry Sawchuk. Roy finished the night with 57,202 minutes. Sawchuk had 57,194 in his 21-season NHL career. |
