Sharks Take Another BiteApr 24, 2004
Patrick Marleau had a goal and an assist as the San Jose Sharks beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-1 for a two games to none lead in the Western Conference semifinals.
"I think most hockey people know about us," Marleau said. "Maybe we don't get all the attention that some teams do, but we're just focused on our goals."
Jonathan Cheechoo, Vincent Damphousse and Wayne Primeau also scored and Niko Dimitrakos had two assists for the Sharks.
"We have to win Game 3. We have no choice," Avalanche captain Joe Sakic said. "We get a little sloppy when things don't go our way, and we have to turn that around. They have the jump on us. We're getting outworked. They're playing with a lot more intensity than we are."
Milan Hejduk scored for the Avalanche, who try to turn things around as the series shifts to Denver.
"Sometimes you get the calls, but I'm not happy with the way we're playing," Forsberg said. "We need to take care of things on our home ice. We definitely need to play better. They have outplayed us."
Red Wings Even Series
"It's amazing how much energy you have after scoring goals," Yzerman said.
Game 3 is Tuesday night in Calgary.
