Flames Burn WingsMay 3, 2004 | |
Martin Gelinas scored 19:13 into overtime as the Calgary Flames advanced to the Western Conference finals by beating the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 for a victory in their semifinal series.
"It was a great team game," Gelinas said. "I'm just happy to be in the right place. If it wasn't me, it would have been one of my teammates." "There isn't one hero," Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. "They all did a great job." "If you were going to say that we would be eliminated with back-to-back shutouts, I don't think you would have many people that would believe that would happen to this hockey club, with the offense we have and the guys that put the puck in the net," Red Wings center Kris Draper said. Miikka Kiprusoff made 38 saves for his second straight shutout. "It's our team, that's how we play," said Kiprusoff, who has three playoff shutouts. "We don't give too many chances. We played a great game again today." "There's a couple things we didn't do; we didn't score a goal," Red Wings coach Dave Lewis said. "You can't win a hockey game if you don't score a goal." |
