Barrasso wins 300thArchived from 1997-98 season.Tom Barrasso became the first American-born goaltender to win 300 games and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Florida Panthers, 4-1. On his way to 300 victories, Barrasso had to wait for the last five wins for over 17 months. His career record improved to 300-220-64, giving him .513 lifetime winning percentage. Barrasso is the 14th goalie in NHL to win 300 games. "It's great company to be in," Barrasso said. "There are a lot of people responsible for it. I have to thank my mom and dad, and my wife and kids have been very supportive and given me motivation. Any goaltender wants to get 100 and then 200, and not many guys have won 300. Obviously, I'd like to keep adding to it and climb even higher on that list." Florida lost its second straight game and mustered only 23 shots on goal. Copyright©1997 The HockeyNut |
