What a mess!Archived from 1997-98 season. The Vancouver Canucks are in serious trouble. The team is in the cellar of the Pacific Division and has lost seven straight. This is not the way the season was supposed to start for the Canucks. In July the team signed free agent center Mark Messier to a three-year contract worth over $20 million. Messier was signed for his famous leadership skills to kick-start an underachieving team that missed the playoffs, despite of having one of the highest payrolls in the NHL. The team has only one win at home including four exhibition games. Messier has only four points in the first 13 games. Vancouver fired president and general manager Pat Quinn on November 4th.
