The NHL's trading deadline was on Wednesday at 12 noon PST. There was a flurry of activity and maybe the most notable trade sent Kirk MacLean from Carolina to Florida for winger Ray Sheppard.
Here is a rundown of Tuesday's wheeling and dealing: The Philadelphia Flyers in a surprise move dealt young defenseman Janne Niinimaa to Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Dan McGillis. In a separate move the Flyers acquired veteran defenseman Dave Babych from Vancouver Canucks for a third-round draft pick. The Detroit Red Wings also bolstered their defense by bringing in hard-hitting Dmitri Mironov from Anaheim for Jamie Pushor and Detroit's fourth-round pick in the 1998 entry draft. Red Wings also acquired veteran D-man Jamie Macoun from Toronto four a fourth-round pick in 1998. The New York Rangers traded right wing Mike Keane, center Brian Skrudland and a conditional pick to the Dallas Stars for right wing Todd Harvey, left wing Bob Errey and a 1998 fourth-round pick. The Rangers have also reportedly picked up center Harry York, the second-year center from St. Louis Blues, in exchange for center Mike Eastwood. The Buffalo Sabres have sent right wing Jason Dawe to the New York Islanders for left wing Paul Kruse and defenseman Jason Holland. The San Jose Sharks received defenseman Bryan Marchment from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for right wing Andrei Nazarov and future considerations. The Sharks also picked up right wing Joe Murphy from St. Louis for defenseman Todd Gill. The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenseman Jeff Brown to the Washigton Capitals in exchange for defenseman Sylvain Cote. Colorado has sent center Josef Marha to Anaheim for left wing Warren Rychel and a conditional 1999 draft pick. Anaheim also Acquired the rights to goaltender Patrick Lalime from Pittsburgh for center Sean Pronger. |
