Canucks finally sign Mogilny

The Vancouver Canucks signed holdout restricted free agent Alexander Mogilny to four-year contract worth $17.6 million, the team announced Friday.

Mogilny didn't report to training camp because of a dispute over his contract and chose to hold out.

"It's great," Mogilny said at a news conference. "I was just sitting at home watching those guys and I just wanted to be out there, still part of the team. I felt like it, anyway."

The nosediving Canucks, who have lost eight straight games, could use Mogilny's skills and offensive output. He has scored 297 goals and added 327 assists in 536 NHL games.

Mogilny's signing came three days after the Canucks owner, John McCaw, fired president and general manager Pat Quinn, who had been handling the Mogilny talks.
