Kariya, Fedorov lead no-showsArchived from 1997-98 season.Paul Kariya and Sergei Fedorov are among players not reporting to training camp. Kariya turned down a 5-year, $25 million offer in July and negotiations have been stalled since then. Kariya was very critical of the Ducks' GM Jack Ferreira in the aftermath of coach Ron Wilson's firing in June. The Ducks will open the regular season with two games against Vancouver in Japan. The games have been sold out largely on the interest in Kariya in Japan. Kariya, who has japanese ancestry, has expressed enthusiasm about playing in Japan. Reports from Detroit say that Sergei Fedorov has asked the team to trade him. Red Wings GM Ken Holland is reluctant to trade him after dealing G Mike Vernon to San Jose and losing D Vladimir Konstantinov as well because of a limousine accident. Copyright©1997 The HockeyNut |
