Rangers shooting blanksArchived from 1997-98 season.Where's our offense? That is the question increasingly asked by the fans of the New York Rangers after the team loses again Wednesday night, Oct. 15, this time to the Ottawa Senators, 1-5. The high-salaried Rangers have scored only 15 goals in seven games and are 1-2-4 for the season. "We have to figure out what we do best," coach Colin Campbell said. "Is it skate? Hit? Score? We've had trouble scoring since exhibition. Our penalty killing has been good but our power play hasn't." The Rangers' power play is scoreless in its last 14 chances. It is still October and playoffs are six months away, but New York media and fans are growing impatient. They expect the team to win and don't like the way this season has started. The Rangers were in the limelight for most of the off-season. The free agent signings of right wing Mike Keane and center Brian Skrudland were steps to the right direction. But then things got rocky when the team signed Colorado's center Joe Sakic, who was a restricted free agent, to an offer sheet and the Avalanche matched it. Copyright©1997 The HockeyNut |
