Drop the puck!Archived from 1997-98 season. The hockey season is finally here and it feels good! The 1997-98 season is going to be a blast! The games are starting, but many star players won't be playing. More than 30 restricted free agents are unsigned and not expected to play in their teams' opening games. Most notable being Paul Kariya of Anaheim, Sergei Fedorov of Detroit, Alexander Mogilny of Vancouver and Daniel Alfredsson of Ottawa. Something has really changed in the NHL. Many of these players are showing the kind of greed and selfishness that was never part of hockey before. On the other hand, some argue that the players are not the owners' slaves anymore. Go figure. Let's play hockey! We are also going to see the league take a 17-day break in February that will allow NHL players to participate in the Olympics for the first time. The NHL hopes to increase it's popularity by the global exposure of the Olympics. Copyright©1997 The HockeyNut |
