International Format Returns For 1999 All-Star GameArchived from 1998-99 season. | |
For the second consecutive year the NHL All-Star Game will feature the stars of North America facing the best players from the rest of the World on Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999 at the Ice Palace in Tampa Bay.
"The positive response to the international format at last year's All-Star weekend in Vancouver was overwhelming," said Steve Solomon, the NHL's senior vice president and chief operating officer. "Last year's All-Star Game and SuperSkills Competition were among the most competitive and entertaining in years." The starting lineups for the 49th All-Star Game will be determined through the NHL's fan balloting program. From Nov. 1 to Dec. 28, 1998, hockey fans from around the world can cast ballots for their favorite players at NHL arenas, selected restaurants and on the internet. You can cast your vote online at Yahoo Sports! and the NHL's web site. Fans will be asked to vote for the six North America All-Stars and six World All-Stars they believe should start in the NHL All-Star Game. Voters may select two wingers, two defensemen, one center and one goaltender for each club. If a player is not listed on the ballot, a space is provided for "write-in" votes. The top two wingers and defensemen, and the top center and goaltender from each club receiving the most votes will comprise the starting lineups for the All-Star Game. |
