Byron Dafoe made 34 saves for his second consecutive shutout as the Boston Bruins beat the winless Colorado Avalanche, 3-0.
Ray Bourque had a goal and an assist and Jason Allison and Joe Thornton also scored for Boston. Colorado outshot Boston 34-23 in the game including a barrage of 17 shots in the third period. The Avalanche pressed hard in the final period but Dafoe made the saves including a blistering slap shot that Dafoe got his shoulder on as he was knocked backward. "They keep trying to make pretty plays. With the bad ice in this building, it hurts them," Dafoe said. "We're just a bunch of muckers and grinders. I had a lot of confidence going. I hope we can get at least .500 on this trip." The Avalanche are 0-3 for the first time in the 20-year history of the franchise. They were the Quebec Nordiques before moving to Colorado three years ago. "Going on the road trip can't hurt. We're sure glad some positive things happened during the third period," Colorado's Jeff Odgers said. "I just have to go out there and get a big hit and maybe fight once in a while." Slap shots |
