Canucks hire BurkeArchived from 1998-99 season. | |
The Vancouver Canucks named Brian Burke as president and general manager. Burke has spent the last five years as NHL's vice president in charge of disciplinary matters.
He succeeds Pat Quinn, who was fired last November. Burke was an assistant to Quinn in Vancouver from 1987 through '92 before becoming general manager of the Hartford Whalers. "I hope my first impact is to stop the waves this organization has been through, battered by storm after storm," Burke said. Burke will inherit a chaotic situation with an organization in disarray. The Canucks hired Mike Keenan as coach last November. Keenan has traded players in his trademark style and rumors fly that players like Pavel Bure are not happy. |
