Canada wins gold in womens' WorldsArchived from 1998-99 season. | |
Canada beat the United States 3-1 Sunday night to win fifth straight Womens' World Championship in Espoo, Finland. Canada turned the tables and got revenge for losing the Olympic gold to the U.S. last year.
"It was awesome," center Vicky Sunohara said of winning gold again. "It was a great game. In the third period, we played like I've never seen us play before. Everybody, veterans and rookies, deserves this because everybody was on fire. Every piece of the puzzle was there." Finland, the Olympic bronze medalist, was third for the fifth time at the worlds. The Finns beat Sweden 8-2 for third place. China took fifth with a 4-1 win over Russia, and Germany defeated Switzerland 3-0 for seventh. |
