Pavol Demitra scored his fifth goal of the playoffs at 2:43 of overtime as the St. Louis Blues beat the Dallas Stars 3-2 Monday night.

"Everybody tried to help me and I'm back. I'm just happy and I'm enjoying my time on the ice and enjoying my time with the puck." Demitra said. "We never thought about losing. We know we can beat Dallas, and we proved it."

Demitra literally brought St. Louis back from the brink as they cut Dallas' lead to 2-1 in the series. Had they lost the Blues would have faced almost insurmountable 3-0 deficit. Geoff Courtnall made a great pass to Demitra who beat Ed Belfour from in front to end the overtime early.

"Somebody made a nice pass out of the corner," Belfour said. "I wish I could have gotten further out. Demitra made a nice shot."

Mike Eastwood and rookie Jochen Hecht also scored for the Blues. Hecht brought the puck up and passed it to Demitra who made a spectacular move around Stars defenseman Richard Matvichuk and returned the puck to Hecht who beat Belfour inside the left goalpost for his first career NHL goal.

"It was more than an accident," said Hecht, who spent all but three games during the regular season with Worcester of the AHL. "I wanted to go on the far side or between the legs. I almost lost it, and then I went short corner."

Brett Hull and Darryl Sydor scored for the Stars, who suffered their first loss in the playoffs.

"We got away from the things we were trying to do," Dallas captain Derian Hatcher said. "We were making puck mistakes. We were turning the puck over pretty much everywhere on the ice. We were working hard, but not in the right areas."
