Red Wings lead the series | |
Life is back to normal in Hockeytown as the defending champions, the Detroit Red Wings looked impressive in a 3-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes. Wings lead the series 3-2.
Tomas Holmstrom scored his first goal in the playoffs and Vyacheslav Kozlov and Sergei Fedorov finished scoring with spectacular goals for Detroit. Rick Tocchet scored for Phoenix, his sixth in the playoffs. "They're a hungry team," Coyotes' Jeremy Roenick said. "When they see a dog down, they usually step on him. We have to be ready to play better next time, no question about that." Chris Osgood made some key saves in the Red Wings' net and overall looked confident, he gave up 13 goals in the first three games but seems to have gathered himself. "We played the way we're capable," Osgood said. "We're playing as a team again, with all four lines and six defensemen. That's the way this team is built. That's how we win games." Devils refuse to be exorcised. The big upset didn't happen, yet. The New Jersey Devils played with nothing to lose and beat the Ottawa Senators, 3-1, to stay alive. Senators lead the series 3-2 and have another chance to win it at home. Mike Grier scored twice as Edmonton stayed alive with a 3-1 victory over Colorado. Mike Modano had a couple of goals as Dallas took a 3-2 lead in the series by beating San Jose, 3-2. |
