Brendan Shanahan scored two goals and Steve Yzerman had a goal and two assists as the Detroit Red Wings moved to the second round with 5-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes.

The defending Stanley Cup champions advanced to the second round for the seventh straight postseason. Detroit had amazing 13 different goal-scorers in the series, a fact that speaks loudly about the Red Wings' depth.

"We were that way all through the regular season," Detroit's Kris Draper said. "We didn't have a 30-goal scorer, but we had a lot of guys with 10 goals or more. You know Sergei and Steve are going to get their goals, but we've always had someone there to step up when it was needed."

Coyotes fought hard and made the series closer than many expected.

"I think we competed," Phoenix' Rick Tocchet said. "We let them off the hook in Game 4, and that hurt us. You only get so many chances to win a cup in your career. There's a lot of disappointed guys in this room."

Bellows wins it for Caps. Olaf Kolzig made 49 saves and Brian Bellows scored in OT as Washington Capitals beat the Boston Bruins, 3-2, to take the series.

Habs get the job done. The Montreal Canadiens eliminated the Pittsburgh Penguins by winning the sixth game, 3-0.
