Stars shine in OT

Benoit Hogue is the hero of the moment for the Dallas Stars. His wrist shot beat goaltender Curtis Joseph in overtime to lift the Stars to a 1-0 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton started the game in a frenzy, fueled by the loud sellout crowd the Oilers outshot the Stars 13-6 in the opening period. Only Ed Belfour's heroics kept the game scoreless.

In the second period the tables were turned and it was the Stars who had the most chances to score, but the other goalie of the game, Curtis Joseph, played brilliantly and stopped Dallas.

This was a huge win for Dallas and they must build on the momentum and try to kick start their sputtering offense. The Oilers played a fantastic game and still lost, something that is mentally very tough to take.

Ottawa gets second wind
Daniel Alfredsson wishes every period was like the first period in the Ottawa Senators' 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals.

Alfredsson scored three goals in the first period and Ottawa held on to win the game. The victory cuts the Caps' lead in the series to 2-1 with Game 4 on Wednesday at Corel Centre.

"They scored three power-play goals, and that was the difference," Washington coach Ron Wilson said. "We've got to do a better job of killing penalties. Every once in a while you're not going to be perfect. It's just one hockey game and we'll put that aside. We've got to respond physically better."
