Brendan Shanahan scored at 11:12 of the second overtime in this year's longest playoff game yet as the Detroit Red Wings beat the St. Louis Blues, 3-2, to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

The Blues squad featured defenseman Chris Pronger who was taken to a hospital in Game 2 and who was only yesterday still wearing a heart monitor.

Also back in the lineup was defenseman Al McInnis who scored his second goal of the game on a blast from the red line with 54.4 seconds left in regulation to send the game in overtime.

Detroit controlled the first overtime outshooting St. Louis 10-5 but Grant Fuhr took care of business and the loud sellout crowd of 20,621 was waiting for the Blues to triumph.

St. Louis was showing signs of offensive life when Brendan Shanahan got his fourth goal in the playoffs assisted by Igor Larionov.

Sabres take 3-0 lead
Michael Peca scored 1:24 into the second overtime to give the Buffalo Sabres a 5-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.

Dominik Hasek played a huge third period and kept the Sabres in the game while being outshot 18-2 in the period.

"There hasn't been any doubt in this locker room in I don't know how long," said Peca, "Guys were talking about how they were going to dance when they scored."
