Olaf Kolzig earned his second shutout of the playoffs and Sergei Gonchar scored shorthanded as the Washington Capitals defeated the Ottawa Senators, 2-0, to take commanding three to one lead in the series.

Ottawa outshot the Capitals with a staggering 36-11 margin but to no avail. Kolzig in Washington's net was invincible.

"For me it's the same thing night in and night out, stop the puck and give the guys a chance to win," Kolzig said, "That's the way it's been the whole playoffs. The guys realize the more shots I get the better I play."

Washington has a chance to advance to the Eastern Conference finals for only the second time in their history with a victory in Game 5 Friday at home. Ottawa is on a brink of elimination and has to win to stay alive.

"It's huge," Kolzig said. "Obviously, the ultimate would have been to take both games out of here and sweep, but we knew that was going to be tough. The next-best thing is to get a split, and that's what we did."

Dallas wins again
Benoit Hogue scored in OT in Game 3 and he was Dallas' hero again in Game 4 by scoring twice as the Dallas Stars beat the Edmonton Oilers, 3-1, to take a 3-1 lead in the series.

"We played solid in our end and never gave up," Hogue said. "It was a real team effort. It's what we wanted, to go back home 3-1."
