Stars reach Conference finals | |
The Dallas Stars finally exorcised the ghost of yesteryear when they eliminated the Edmonton Oilers with a 2-1 victory in Game 5.
It was a sweet revenge for the Stars who were the victims of Edmonton's miracle upset a year ago. Derian Hatcher scored the first goal in the game with only four seconds left in the first period. Second period was scoreless and with 2:26 left in the third period Greg Adams made it 2-0. Edmonton pulled Curtis Joseph with two minutes left and Bill Guerin managed to put one behind Ed Belfour with 29 seconds left. The Oilers rallied and forced the face-off to Dallas' end with nine seconds left but failed to send the game to overtime. It is the first conference final for Dallas, altough the franchise has been to the Stanley Cup finals twice as the Minnesota North Stars losing both times. Dallas will meet the winner of St. Louis-Detroit series. Detroit leads the series 3-1 and has a chance to win it on Sunday. |
