It doesn't get any worse than this. The St. Louis Blues were supposed to be ready for war and force Game 7 against the Detroit Red Wings. Instead they got steamrolled out of the playoffs.

Detroit took total control of the game and looked very impressive in their 6-1 humiliation of the Blues.

"They put us in our place," St. Louis center Craig Conroy said. "It was a humbling experience."

Martin Lapointe scored twice and Steve Yzerman had a goal and three assists. Chris Osgood in Detroit's net stopped all but one of 31 shots and the Red Wings got their once sputtering power-play in order by converting on three of five chances.

Detroit didn't let the St. Louis crowd into equation by winning all three road games in the series.

"To do well in the playoffs, you have to win on the road," Yzerman said. "Home ice just isn't as important as it's made out to be."

Sergei Fedorov earned a $12 million bonus for the Red Wings advancing to the conference finals. Fedorov held out for the first 59 games and joined the Red Wings only after the team matched Carolina's offer to the restricted free agent.

"You can't control what people make out of things," Fedorov said. "I focused on my hockey. I don't feel anything at all about it right now."
