Mats Sundin scored at 10:49 of overtime to give the Toronto Maple Leafs a 1-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals series opener.
"As a kid, you dream about scoring overtime goals," Sundin said. "It feels great and we'll take the win." Sundin ripped a long shot just inside the blue line past Senators goalie Patrick Lalime. "It was a heartbreaker, for sure," Lalime said. "I just saw it at the last second. But it's good for us to play back-to-back games. We can look forward to getting right back at it tomorrow." Curtis Joseph made 36 saves for the Maple Leafs, who beat Ottawa 2-0 in the playoff opener last season and eventually won the series 4-2. "It's tough for both teams, especially when you go into overtime," Sundin said. "I thought our effort was as good as it's been all season, but it could easily have gone the other way." Game 2 is Saturday night in Ottawa. |
