Leafs Finish Sweep
Yanic Perreault scored two goals as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Senators 3-1 at to complete a surprising four-game sweep of their first-round series.
"We didn't want to go back to Ottawa, for sure," said Perreault. "We wanted to get it over with tonight. I thought the first 10 minutes we didn't get our legs going as much as we wanted, but after that we played well."
Toronto goalie Curtis Joseph was the hero of the series allowing only three goals on 123 shots.
"Three goals for the whole series, it can't be done without playing great defense. And that sums it up," Joseph said. "The penalty-killing was terrific -- a lot of guys got in shooting lanes and you either block it or deter him from shooting. We did a lot of courageous blocks and it was terrific to see."
Ottawa won their division in the regular season with 109 points and early exit from the playoffs is bitter.
"I don't know what it is. We've had some great regular seasons and, unfortunately, been unable to carry that over," said Ottawa defenseman Chris Phillips. "I guess if we all had answers, we'd be going a lot further in the playoffs."
