The Edmonton Oilers have been rumored to trade center Jason Arnott for much of this season. The rumors became reality on Sunday when Arnott and defenseman Bryan Muir were traded to the New Jersey Devils for right wing Bill Guerin and left wing Valeri Zelepukin.

Arnott was Edmonton's first draft choice and seventh overall in 1993 entry draft. He finished second in balloting for the Calder Trophy after picking up 33 goals and 35 assists in 78 games in the 1993-94 season.

His career took a downturn after the phenomenal rookie year. He didn't score more than 59 points in any of the next three seasons. He has five goals and 13 assists in 35 games this season.

Bill Guerin was a restricted free agent after last season and had difficult contract negotiations with the team. Guerin sat out first quarter of the season finally signing a new contract in late November.

Guerin was initially left out of the U.S. Olympic team and several other players threatened to boycott if he wasn't added to the Olympica squad. Guerin was at the time still unsigned and U.S. Olympic team's general manager Louis A. Lamoriello is also Devils' GM. Many players felt that Lamoriello left Guerin out because of their contract dispute.

Guerin was later added to the Olympic team, before he signed with the Devils.
