The three-year deal will give Hasek $7.5 million next season and $9.25 million in the 1999-2000 and 2000-01 seasons. The team also has an option for the 2001-02 campaign at another $9.25 million. A no-trade clause was also included. Hasek became the first goaltender in 35 years to win the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player last season. This year he led his native Czech Republic to an Olympic gold with a stellar performance. He also leads all goalies in the NHL with ten shutouts. "It is kind of a historic night if you're a Buffalo Sabres fan, because I'm in the great position of having reached an agreement with Dominik Hasek," Sabres owner John Rigas said. "We hope that this will be a continuation of our quest to win a Stanley Cup. For his career Hasek is 158-118-47 in 33 games with the Sabres and the Chicago Blackhawks, posting a 2.41 GAA and 30 shutouts. In 22 playoff appearances, he is 6-11 with a 2.36 GAA and a pair of shutouts. |
