Kariya's season may be overArchived from 1997-98 season. | |
The Olympics have come and gone, but the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim are still playing without their star players Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne.
Kariya continues to suffer from post-concussion syndrome after getting cross-checked in the jaw on Feb. 1 by Chicago's Gary Suter. Selanne is out on a day-to-day basis with a stomach muscle pull suffered at the Olympics. Kariya's symptoms, which include dizziness, must disappear and then he will spend at least a month recovering, team doctor Craig Millhouse said Saturday. "Absolutely, we're going to err on the side of caution," Millhouse said. "If the symptoms clear in two weeks, and add a month, that's at the end of the season. We're not going to get caught up in trying to get him back for the playoffs. We're taking no risks." Kariya also has trouble remembering conversations and concentrating for longer than one hour. "Some days I feel OK and other days I still feel bad ... I don't know what to think," Kariya said. "It's like I have cobwebs in my head. I thought the symptoms would have cleared by now. I thought I'd be able to come back after a few games, but now ... I don't know." |
