COL
Jari Kurri became the eighth player in NHL history to score 600 goals when he netted his fourth goal of the season as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Los Angeles Kings, 5-1.

Kurri redirected a pass from Alexei Gusarov behind Kings goalie Stephane Fiset at 3:21 of the first period to give Colorado a 1-0 lead.

"It is a relief to get it over with," Kurri said. "It has been tough to get that one, but (Alexei) Gusarov made a hell of a play."

"This puck should be under the tree," Kurri said. "The other gifts can all go away. This was the best gift I could get."

Kurri now needs ten more goals to catch the seventh all-time leading goal scorer, Bobby Hull. A feat that Kurri might not accomplish, because he has said this will be his final season.

When Kurri, a 17-year veteran from Finland, retires it will be an end of a fabulous hockey career.

Kurri was Edmonton's third choice, 69th overall, in 1980 Entry Draft. He played ten seasons with the Oilers and won the Stanley Cup five times. After Wayne Gretzky, Kurri was the most important part of the Oilers machine that ruled the 80s.

Kurri has played 1217 games in the NHL and has 787 assists to go with his 600 goals for 1387 points. That gives him 1.14 points per game.

He has also played for Los Angeles, the New York Rangers and Anaheim in his long career.
