John Rigas, who heads the Adelphia group, would acquire control of the franchise and make a substantial investment of working capital. Those who already have ownership in the team will receive a partial return of their investment and continue to hold subordinate notes. The deal means the Knox family would give up control of the team it has owned for 28 years. "It has been tough at times and exhilarating at others, and we are confident that under Mr. Rigas' leadership, the Sabres will continue to be a vital part of western New York." Knox said. Northrup Knox had been a principal owner since the birth of the franchise in 1970, along with his brother, the late Seymour Knox. |
