World Championships'97Canada wins goldNolan and Burke are Canadian heroesOwen Nolan scored a goal and set up another one as Canada beat Sweden 2-1 in Game 3 of the best-of-three Gold Medal series at WC'97. In the net for the Canadians, Sean Burke performed acrobatics and made 31 saves to beat Sweden. Canada started the game strong and outshot Sweden 14-8 in the first period. Owen Nolan brought the puck up and Dean Evason put the rebound in the net. Canada lead 1-0 after 1st period. In the second period Canada slowed the game down after Nolan scored and focused on tight team defense. Canada lead 2-0 after 2nd period. In the last period Sweden tried to come back, but couldn't score until the last minute. It seemed that Canada played with a bigger heart and wanted to win more than the Swedes. Canadian's bench stood up most of the final period in support of teammates on the ice. World Championship is especially sweet for the Canadians, coming over Sweden. It is a small revenge for Peter Forsberg's shoot-out goal for Sweden in 94' Olympics, which took the gold away from Canada. Copyright©1997 The HockeyNut |
