The Toronto Maple Leafs are putting on a show well worth the famous Maple Leaf Garden before moving to a new arena.
The Leafs won for the 10th time in their last 11 home games by trashing the Pittsburgh Penguins, 7-1. "There are still areas that I'm not happy with, but with a game like this, it's hard to knock them down." said Toronto coach Pat Quinn. Leaf captain Mats Sundin scored two goals, Alyn McCauley had a goal and two assists Derek King had a goal and an assist as Toronto improved to 19-11-2 "It's always nice. We've obviously got things going offensively right now and Cujo (Curtis Joseph) made some big saves early on in the ," Sundin said. "Then we got a couple of goals where their goalie maybe should've had the puck. It seemed they kind of gave up on the game." These are the final times to the historic Maple Leafs Garden. The Leafs are scheduled to play their last game there on Feb. 13 against Chicago before moving to the new Air Canada Centre. "One thing about the Gardens is there's so much history there," said former Leaf defenseman Dave Ellett. "But like anything, there comes a time when you need to make a change, and I think it had its history and it's time to move on. The new arena is supposed to be spectacular, and once they get moved in there, the garden will be phased out. There are a lot of good memories there, that's for sure." |
