Demers finally gets 400th winArchived from 1998-99 season. | |
Jacques Demers became the 12th coach in NHL history to reach 400 wins as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Buffalo Sabres 2-1.
Demers had to wait for the milestone as the Lightning was winless in the eight previous games. Demers, who's wife Debbie was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, put the milestone in proper perspective. "I'm going to get it (the game puck) framed and I'm going to put my wife's name on it," said Demers. "I wanted to share it with her because I didn't think she would be here tonight." David Wilkie opened scoring for Tampa Bay in the first period before Miroslav Satan tied the score at one. Rob Zamuner nailed the game-winner at 12:43 of the second period. "Jacques is an emotional guy and really cares about his team ... we're glad we could give something back to him," Zamuner said. "It's a nice night for Jacques and he deserves one day of feeling good about our team." The Lightning outshot Buffalo 32-15, including 14-5 in the second period. Lightning trades for Nylander "We needed to upgrade our talent and we've done that," Demers said. "We got a tremendous talent who is still a very young man. He's 100 percent healthy and excited to be coming down here." |
