Lindros signs deal for 1998-99Archived from 1998-99 season. | |
Eric Lindros was one week away from technically becoming a restricted free agent. Lindros signed a $8.5 million contract with Philadelphia for 1998-99 season.
Altough the deal was done several months ago, several revisions to the deal's wording had kept both the Flyers and Lindros from signing. If no deal had been signed by July 1, Lindros would have become a restricted free agent and could have gotten offers from other teams. The Flyers say they will file the contract with the NHL's central registry in order to have Lindros removed from free agent list. Philadelphia's general manager Bobby Clarke also expressed his wish to have Lindros signed to a long-term deal before nexr season starts. "We've got one deal nailed down, and the next thing is for us to talk about the next one," Lindros family attorney Gordon Kirke said. "I think everybody would feel better if we could do this next one before the season begins. We'll wait to hear from the Flyers." |
