Sabres rattle StarsArchived from 1998-99 season. | |
Rookie Martin Biron recorded his first NHL win and Michael Peca scored the winning goal as the Buffalo Sabres a three-game winless streak against the the Dallas Stars, 2-1, Friday night.
Biron, a 1995 first-round pick, was making just his third career start due to the absence of Dominik Hasek, who has missed seven games with a strained groin. "I've been dreaming about my first NHL win since I was four or five, and I was in kindergarten," Biron said. "My mom kept a photo album and in the back, there was a page that asked you what you wanted to be, and I wrote down NHL player. And I've always remembered that album and my dream." Biron was called up on February 19 to take over as the backup to Dwayne Roloson. Biron was playing fro Rochester of the American Hockey League leading the league in goals-against-average. "If they think I can play more games here with Dominik out, I'll find the energy to get the job done," Biron added. "I've played a lot in Rochester, so I'm used to the work." Dallas had its four-game unbeaten streak snapped and lost for just the fourth time in the last 16 meetings with Bufffalo. "We've given up just six goals in our last three games on this road trip, so defensively, we've been great," Dallas coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We just haven't been able to finish our chances offensively." |
