Stars shut down DucksArchived from 1998-99 season. | |
Ed Belfour had his fifth shutout of the season and Joe Nieuwendyk scored twice as the Dallas Stars brought the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim down to earth, 4-0.
"We respect the Anaheim club an awful lot. They are a real good team with several skilled players," Nieuwendyk said. "But we're comfortable playing against anybody right now. Our only concern is ourselves and if we continue to get contributions from everybody the way we have, we're really not going to have to concern ouselves with the opposition." The Stars clinched a playoff spot with the victory and Calgary's loss to Carolina. Dallas is one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup and the pressure is on them. "People know it isn't going to be easy against us," Nieuwendyk said. "Right now we're just trying to fine-tune our game." The Ducks had their eight-game unbeaten streak stopped as Teemu Selanne saw his club-record 17-game points streak to end. "Anytime you can come out even or better against them (Selanne and Kariya), you're in good shape," Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We were able to take advantage of a couple of mistakes by them." Belfour boosted his record to 30-10-8 and Stars improved to 30 games over .500 at 42-12-10 for league-leading 94 points. |
