Al MacInnis returned to the St. Louis Blues lineup for a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks after missing just five games with a collapsed right lung. St. Louis has the best record in the Western Conference with 72 points.
"I had no problems," said MacInnis. "Coming back tonight, there wasn't any rush to see if I could play on the weekend." MacInnis logged over 20 minutes of ice time and is making plans to participate in his 11th All-Star game this weekend in Toronto. "Al brings a lot to this group," Blues coach Joel Quenneville said. "He's real steady. I thought he was real good out there." Blues won their 11th straight meeting with the Canucks and their sixth consecutive trip to Vancouver. St. Louis has not lost in the series since December 15, 1996. "It's just a fluky stat," said Quenneville. "There's no rhyme or reason. Every game brings another situation." Garth Snow allowed five goals on 17 shots for the Canucks, who have lost three in a row. They are 7-22-8 after an 8-4-2 start. "It's tough to keep your chin up when you keep getting it smacked," said Canucks coach Crawford. "That's what it feels like tonight. We shot ourselves in the foot a few times tonight. One of the areas where we really have to continue to try to improve is that we can't give up the big chance." |
