Penguins Win Without JagrArchived from 1999-2000 season. | |
Hans Jonsson scored with 2:25 left in overtime as the Pittsburgh Penguins inched closer to a playoff berth with a 4-3 victory over the Washington Capitals.
"Everybody knows it's that time," Penguins goaltender Ron Tugnutt said. "Every time we win, it makes it hard on someone else. Montreal did it to us last night." Penguins, who were playing without Jaromir Jagr, scored three power-play goals for the fifth win in six games. "Power-play goals are how you win on the road," Pittsburgh coach Herb Brooks said. "It was a really gutsy effort for us this time of year. The players reached down and were not going to lose this game." Despite losing the game, the Capitals moved into a tie for Eastern Conference lead with the point for regulation tie. "We'll wake up tomorrow, and we're still tied for first," Washington defenseman Ken Klee said. "We have to stay positive." Chris Simon scored his team-leading 29th goal for Washington, who had a seven-game home winning streak snapped. "We took too many penalties and they've got so much skill over there," Simon said. "The way they play on the power play, you can't give them two or three chances like that." |
