The San Jose Sharks are heading home with a 1-1 tie in the Western Conference quarterfinal series against St. Louis after beating the Blues 4-2 in Game 2.
Mike Ricci scored the game-winning goal on power-play with 5:42 left in the third period as Blues' Scott Young was serving a double minor for high sticking. Owen Nolan added an empty-net goal. Marty Reasoner gave the Blues 1-0 lead, but then the Sharks got lucky when Gary Suter was credited with a goal after St. Louis' Marc Bergevin put the puck in his own net. "Funny things happen," Ricci said. "We'll take that break. But we're not going to rely on those things happening any more." Bryan Marchment also scored for the Sharks on a goal from behind the net to give San Jose 2-1 lead in the third period. "All the other four goals, other than the empty-net goal, were going to the net goals," San Jose coach Darryl Sutter said. "Bergevin makes that play because Ricci's going to the net. You don't get all that razzle-dazzle in the playoffs." The series now moves to San Jose for games 3 and 4. "We were undisciplined," Blues coach Joel Quenneville said. "We didn't make a good effort in the second period and some of our decisions were questionable." "We're not invincible," Young said. "We knew that. We also expect to play a lot better than we did today." |
