Dallas took back home-ice advantage by beating Edmonton 4-3 to take a 3-1 lead in the playoff series.
Guy Carbonneau scored the game-winner early in the third period on a long wrist shot when Oilers goalie Tommy Salo appeared screened by defenseman Igor Ulanov. Carbonneau also had a misconduct in the first period for complaining too much to the referees. "When I came back to the bench, I wanted to try to help the team," he said. "Obviously that goal was a good start." Brett Hull, Richard Richard Matvichuk and Mike Modano also scored for the Stars, who can end the series with a victory at home Friday night. "Brett did what he had to do," Dallas coach Ken Hitchcock said. "He scored and he was ready to load it up every shift." Bill Guerin scored a hat trick for the Oilers, who were boosted by a loud sell-out crowd of 17,100 fans at Skyreach Centre. "This isn't the time of year to worry about points and goals," Guerin said. "Hat tricks are good but you've got to win." |
